“Sometimes the worst place you can be is in your own head.”
I love a good party! Always have, always will! I was always the life of the party until it got out of hand, then I was just sad. I have always been willing to try anything at least once and I always had to do it to the extreme, no middle ground for this girl! I wanted to hang with the boys and completely alter how I felt. There is so much noise in my head that sometimes I am desperate to drown it out. This meant a lot of drinking and a lot of drugs. At first it was just basic teenager stuff, but it escalated as I grew older. Here is the story of how that turned out.
Normally when I would go out on the town Brett would drive (I am a terrible driver!) Back in 2006 I was 31 and decided to meet a friend for drinks and dinner downtown. After a couple of drinks I picked up my car from the valet and was heading home when I was pulled over by a state trooper for speeding in Parker County. Keep in mind I lived in Euless so what I was doing in Parker County is still a mystery to me. I was obviously impaired and was arrested for a DWI. I spent the night in jail and woke up feeling really, really bad the next morning. I had called my parents for help because I could not get through to Brett and when I woke up they had posted my bail and were there to pick me up. They were extremely disappointed in me and I claimed that I was not drunk. I wasn’t drunk per se but more on that later. My father knew the Sheriff of Parker County and I was very lucky because I was able to get out first thing in the morning. My parents decided to stand by me and helped me get a good attorney to hopefully reduce the charges and get me out of a mess. I was surprised and grateful but not grateful enough.
We went through the process and my attorney was able to get me probation which would reduce the charge to obstruction of a highway. (I have never understood exactly what that means) I had to attend AA meetings, do community service, pay some fines, see a probation officer, etc. Brett was furious with me and I pretty much stopped driving anywhere for a while. A lot of things happened in the meantime, life was not going well and I had a problem. I went to eat dinner in my father-in-law’s car and had a couple of drinks. The bartender called me a cab so I would not drive but I had the cab driver circle around and I got out and drove off in my car. Going by TCU I went off the road into a telephone pole and totaled the car. I knew I was screwed so I just waited for the police to come and the last thing I remember is telling them I was ready to go. Everything goes black after that. I woke up the next day in Mansfield prison. I called my husband who was beyond angry. He refused to talk to me and I don’t blame him. My father-in-law was furious. Brett and my parents refused to bail me out of jail. I spent 4 days in Mansfield and if you have ever been there you know the hell that I went through. There were 8 of us crammed into a 4 person cell, nothing to do, no TV, for 4 DAYS. I deserved every moment of it.
I knew that this was an obvious violation of my probation in Parker County and that pretty much everyone in my life was furious with me. I was arrested again in Tarrant County a few weeks later for the probation warrant out of Parker County. They threw me in jail in downtown Fort Worth to wait for Parker County to come and get me. Seven days later I was still waiting for them to come and get me. One of the other girls in my cage hated me with a passion and I was pretty much up all the time because she kept threatening to attack me, I was completely out my league in there. Parker County finally came to pick me up and five hours later I was out again with a new court date to hear my punishment. I dreaded going to that court date but there was no other option, I couldn’t run, there was no way out. So in mid-November 2006 I reported to court and I was ordered to serve 28 days in jail for the probation violation and for fines. I had no job, no money and no one was lending it to me, so I had to do the time to pay the court. They arrested me right there in court and took me to jail.
