How much do I love The Weeknd? So much!! You may ask, why is she misspelling it, doesn’t everyone love the weekend? I am speaking of The Weeknd, Mr. Abel Tesfaye, the man, the myth, the legend, my second husband! If you have not experienced his music and amazing voice run straight to Spotify and get you some! I know I am overusing the explanation points but that is how much he excites me! I don’t even like R&B very much but I don’t really consider his music to be that, I like to call it baby-making music or gettin’ it on music! I cannot deny it, I find him incredibly sexy and most of his music is about sex and that is fine with me, I love it!
I love his sadness, his arrogance, his honesty, his brashness, his completely unique ability to make me feel a certain way with his words and voice. I became obsessed during 2014 when listening to his Trilogy. I don’t remember how exactly I discovered him, I really wish I did, I think maybe I read about him somewhere and checked him out. I loved the pain. sadness and melancholy of The Trilogy. There were not many upbeat songs on that album but I felt like he was speaking to my soul!
The Weeknd went on to release one great album after another, Kissland, The Beauty Behind the Madness, Starboy and My Dear Melancholy. I think pretty much everyone has heard his biggest song, Can’t Feel My Face, which was everywhere, which is very ironic considering what it’s about.
Anyhow, at the same time he did numerous collaborations with Sia, Ariana Grande, Lana del Ray, Drake, Future, Kendrick Lamar, Daft Punk and Gesaffilstein. He was on the soundtracks for Belly, Fifty Shades of Grey and Black Panther. There are so many songs that I love, here are some of them: The Knowing, Wicked Game, Wasted Times, Might Not, Sidewalks, Starboy, Call Out My Name, Earned It, The Hills, I Feel It Coming, Can’t Feel My Face, Often, Lost In The Fire, Pray For Me, Low Life, False Alarm, Party Monster, In the Night and Acquainted. (Sorry, ridiculously long list, I know.) Oh and the videos! Any chance to see Abel with his many, varied hair styles and his delicious face is a good one! His YouTube channel is awesome and well, he is a handsome man so enjoy!
So back in 2017 The Weeknd was on tour and I wanted so badly to see him live. The tickets at American Airlines Center were out of control expensive and I was not settling for nosebleed seats. So he added a show in San Antonio and I was like, this is my chance. I literally researched and looked at tons of reviews. What I found out is that he had a stage that extended out into a catwalk that he spent most of the concert on. When I looked up tickets in San Antonio I was able to find 3rd row seats directly in the middle of the catwalk. I snatched those tickets up, they were cheaper than DFW but more than I had ever spent before on a concert but I was crazy excited! Brett not so much but he eventually came around.
The concert was around Brett’s birthday in October 2017. We had a 4 day vacation in San Antonio and it was just an amazing trip! We ate and drank our way through San Antonio and went to the concert. Our seats were amazing and The Weeknd popped up on the catwalk directly in front of us! There was what looked like a spaceship above us covered in lights that moved up and down while changing shape, it was mesmerizing! Abel danced his ass off rarely moving from our perfect view. He was amazing, it is one of my top 5 concerts ever! His voice was the same in person and I lost my voice from screaming so much! All in all a perfect night! We really, really enjoyed San Antonio, they definitely have a growing restaurant scene with plenty of high-end options. But the concert was the highlight! Just 3 hours of bliss!
Just a warning, his music is explicit and dirty but that’s one of the reasons I love him so much! I haven’t been this obsessed with an artist since Depeche Mode, Trent Reznor or Eminem. Brett has finally agreed, he doesn’t like the slower stuff so much but he loves the beats and lyrics to the more upbeat songs. I, of course, know all his lyrics and often perform my own concert in the car. It is pretty bad so don’t worry, I won’t bust out singing in public!
He should be dropping a new album soon so I am beyond excited waiting for it because that means more music and another tour which I will be attending no matter what! I have been to a lot of concerts, I even got to see Pink Floyd in 1993 which is still my favorite ever and I am not comparing the two. This was a totally different experience seeing as it is more rap based, plus I am biased. If he had shown up in a tutu and lost his voice I still would have loved it! Ignore the R & B label and give him a listen. You’ll either think I am crazy or maybe, just maybe you will fall in love too!
