I am tired. Tired of the election, the hate, blue states vs red states, no help with Corona, people out of work with no help to keep them afloat, people are hungry in America in 2020, the partisan vitriol is coming from both parties and we are more divided now than ever.
Compromise is very hard for our parties. Sometimes you have to use a little from both sides to legislate and put laws into effect. We will get nowhere without compromise, empathy and good will towards all. When you take a political position you must understand you may have to give up some of what you want to get in order to get what you want. That is what this country is all about!
I have tried to keep politics out of my blog and I rarely comment on others political posts unless I agree. Today I made the mistake of commenting on someone’s Trump post. I merely posted facts and did not attack anyone personally. The amount of rage, hate and vitriol was quite shocking. This was a friend and I was stating my opinion and she just went crazy. She called me a child murderer, she accused me of being involved with child trafficking and “sniffing children” (I have no idea what that means.)
I have heard the conspiracy theory that people believe that the Democrats and Hollywood elite are trafficking children, drinking their blood to stay young and vibrant and then are using the children for sex. This has been debunked multiple times. A man tried to go into a pizza parlor in DC to find these trafficked children and found nothing so he was arrested citing this same conspiracy theory. People, there is no secret society that controls everything in this country. They are not drinking the blood of children. What Trump has done is normalize these crazy stories by repeating them again and again. Have no doubt that the Republicans will do whatever possible, legal or illegal to win.
I hate confrontation and avoid it if possible but I just had to say something. She stated that since I am pro choice I am a baby killer and does not want me around her kids. It’s ridiculous to think that pro choice means you hate children. People just think that abortion mainly happens because the mothers don’t care. That is not true and there are so many more decisions to consider. Think of the safety of the mother, the times when babies are dead (before being born) and must come out, there are millions of cases that require special and unexpected complications. It is very unusual for a mother to abort late in the pregnancy for any other reason than harm to the child and the ones listed above. You don’t know what someone is going through until you walk in their shoes. Rape and incest victims should be able to decide what they want to do and what is best for them. Abortion is a difficult decision for anyone and it should not be used as birth control and only used for the safety of the mother and the circumstances involving the fetus. Nobody who has an abortion, no matter the circumstances, should be shamed for it. That woman will feel the weight of this decision and the guilt for the rest of her life.
I want to go back to civility and the feeling of a country that is united. I believe that Trump has done everything he can to disrupt, sow discord, pit different groups against one another and cause division. There are 2 parties for a reason, so that they can each have their own ideas and then you legislate the bills into a policy that both sides can live with. We have stopped communicating with one another.
As a country we are divided but I truly hope that we can overcome the division and come together for the greater good and be the democracy we should be. Today I received an apology from my friend which I accepted. See? We can all get along! Love you all!
